The Sheila Twalla Foundation (STF) is a Ugandan non-profit organization dedicated to promoting mental and emotional wellbeing, nurturing child development, empowering individuals, strengthening families, and building resilient communities through holistic, person-centred programmes. We believe that when people are supported to heal, grow, and realise their potential, they become catalysts for stronger families, healthier communities, and lasting social change.
The Sheila Twalla Foundation was born from years of walking alongside people carrying invisible emotional burdens. Through conversations with individuals from different backgrounds, we encountered stories of trauma, grief, rejection, broken relationships, loss, and the everyday pressures of life. While every story was different, one need remained the same: people longed for a safe place where they could be heard, understood, and valued without fear of judgment.
As these conversations continued, we witnessed the quiet power of compassion and genuine human connection. We saw people begin to rediscover hope, regain confidence, rebuild relationships, and find the strength to move forward. These experiences affirmed our belief that every person has inherent worth and the capacity to thrive when given the right support.
What began as a personal initiative known as Soul Deep Therapy gradually grew into something greater. As more people sought support and encouragement, it became clear that the need extended far beyond individual conversations. This growing need inspired the creation of the Sheila Twalla Foundation, a platform committed to walking alongside individuals, families, and communities as they heal, grow, and build resilient futures.
Mental and emotional well-being remains one of the most overlooked aspects of health and development in Uganda. Many people are living with the effects of trauma, grief, family conflict, violence, unemployment, poverty, displacement, and other life challenges. Yet stigma, limited awareness, and inadequate access to support continue to prevent many from seeking help.
At the Sheila Twalla Foundation, we believe this must change. We believe that emotional wellbeing is not separate from development—it is fundamental to it. When individuals have the opportunity to heal, families become stronger. When families are strengthened, communities become more resilient. By creating safe spaces, building life skills, strengthening support systems, and expanding opportunities for personal growth, we contribute to healthier communities where peoplecan thrive with dignity, purpose, and hope.
